Undergraduate Financial Aid Opportunities

For information on grants, scholarships and other forms of financial aid available to all University of Texas students visit finaid.utexas.edu. To be considered for scholarships from the University of Texas, you must complete an on-line application at: http://www.texasscholarships.org/apply/index.html by the April 1 deadline. For students wishing to be considered for federal financial aid (grants, work study, and student loans), you will need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid which is available after Jan 1 every year in the University's Office of Student Financial Services or on-line at: www.fafsa.ed.gov.

In addition to the general financial aid opportunities available to all students, The Department of Kinesiology & Health Education and the College of Education has a number of scholarships for undergraduates. To be eligible for these scholarships you must complete the on-line financial aid application listed above.

Additional information on College of Education scholarships can be obtained by visiting the Undergraduate Advisors in Bellmont 222 or in the Student Dean's Office at SZB 216. For phone advice, please call (512) 471-3476. Before submitting the online application, be sure to indicate the College of Education scholarships for which you are eligible. In addition to these scholarships, there are also awards available through external sources such as foundations or local or national organizations. Information on these opportunities can be obtained by visiting the University's Office of Student Financial Services.

Scholarship Opportunities for Undergraduates in Kinesiology & Health Education

Lynn W. McCraw Award

  • Award given to a Kinesiology Club member in recognition to their dedication and support of the Kinesiology Club.
  • Variable Amount

College of Education Annual Fund Scholarship

  • $500 - $1000 awards
  • Undergraduate or graduate student in Education

College of Education Centennial Endowed Presidential Scholarship

  • $2000 award
  • Undergraduate or graduate student in education
  • Outstanding academic credentials

Dr. Mary Buice Alderson Undergraduate Student Teaching Scholarship in Kinesiology and Health Education

  • $1,250 per year, three awards
  • Undergraduate student with an overall UT GPA of at least 3.0 and UT Kinesiology GPA of at least 3.3
  • For students doing their student teaching during the year in which the application for this scholarship is made

Dr. Mary Buice Alderson Undergraduate Scholarship in Kinesiology and Health Education

  • $1,250 per year, four awards
  • Must be an undergraduate student majoring in Kinesiology
  • Undergraduate student with an overall UT GPA of at least 3.0 and UT Kinesiology GPA of at least 3.3

Paul Dewitt and Ruth Connor Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Education

  • $2000 per year, one award
  • 2.75 GPA minimum
  • Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students with disabilities who want to teach students with disabilities

Robert P. Cooke Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Education

  • $500 awards, two or three
  • For students in the College of Education with unmet financial need requiring assistance beyond there own resources to continue their education

Ben and Leota Gordon Endowed Presidential Fellowship

  • Future teachers with financial need

Lysbeth Ann Martin Hale Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Education

  • $2,000 per year; one award
  • Designated for the support of outstanding future teachers

Joseph L. Henderson and Katherine D. Henderson Scholarships

  • $200-$500 per academic year; approximately 20 awards
  • Available to education students with 2.75 minimum GPA

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Travis Co. Endowed Scholarship in Education

  • $500 per year, multiple awards
  • Students from Travis County, Texas
  • Must be pursuing education degrees or teacher certification
  • Students must exhibit a high degree of commitment to careers in education

Lee Hage and Joseph D. Jamail Endowed Scholarship in Education

  • $1000 or $2000 awards, multiple awards
  • Undergraduate education student of average academic merit who shows promise of success in chosen field
  • Evidence of financial need

Lorrin Kennamer Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Education

  • $2,000 per year; one award
  • Designated for the support of outstanding future teachers at UT Austin

Sarah Hewlett Radkey Scholarship in Education

  • $200-$500 per year; approximately 2 awards
  • Available to education students with 2.75 minimum GPA

John O. and Cathryn Rodgers Endowed Scholarship Fund

  • $500 per year; 3-4 awards
  • Available to education students with good academic record and demonstrated need

Pearl M. Riggs Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Education

  • $2,000 per year; one award
  • 3.0 minimum GPA; "student must show excellent potential for a career in teaching"

I. F. Riggs Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Education

  • $2,000 per year; one award
  • 3.0 minimum GPA; "student must show excellent potential for a career in teaching"

Carl and Agnes Stockard Memorial Endowment

  • $200-$500 per year; approximately 4 awards
  • Available to education students, both graduate and undergraduate

Jo Ann Cutler Sweeney Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Education

  • $2,000 per year; one award
  • Undergraduate student
  • Outstanding future teacher

Texaco Incorporated Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Education

  • 2,000 per year; approximately two awards
  • Designated for students entering or continuing at UT-Austin who are graduates of DARE or PAL programs in Texas high schools.
  • 3.0 minimum overall UT GPA
  • Financial status is a strong secondary consideration

Eunice and Billy Tyson Scholarship

  • Undergraduate student working toward a chosen career within the College of Education
  • Demonstrates significant financial need as determined by the college
  • Maintains a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Fleet and Chester Wynne Endowed Presidential Scholarship

  • $2,000 per year; one award
  • Designated for new freshmen

Named Awards and 1000 Club Scholarships (not endowed)

  • These are gifts from individuals in the amount of $1,000 or more.
  • The number of scholarships available varies according to fundraising results each year. Usually 10-15 awards are made from this fund.
  • Recipients are undergraduates in education with excellent academic records
