Undergraduate Program in Sport Management

At the Undergraduate level, The University of Texas Sport Management program has been around since 1988. The program grew from less than 20 students to over 200 in just 12 years, making it the fastest growing major in the Kinesiology department during the past decade. Admission to this popular program is on a competitive basis.

The University of Texas undergraduate degree holders in Sport Management have enjoyed entry-level jobs in professional, collegiate, and high school athletics as well as community based sport programs such as the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club.

Requirements for the program

  • Overall UT GPA of a 2.5 (only courses taken at UT will be utilized in calculating the GPA)
  • Completion of all prerequisite courses.
  • Completion of 9 hours in a chosen minor. NOTE: all hours completed in the minor will be used to calculate GPA.

NOTE: The GPA for the prerequisite courses will be calculated and the students will be rank-ordered on the basis of the GPA. Only organized courses taken at UT (i.e. no CLEP, transfer, or correspondence) will be utilized in calculating the GPA.

Prerequisite Courses

  • KIN 312 Structure & Organization of Sport - grade of ‘B’ or better required
  • E/RHE 306 or a UT writing component course (if E/RHE 306 was not taken at UT)
  • Foreign Language 506/508K or six hours of foreign language substitution classes
  • PSY 301 or 3 hours of SOC (if PSY was not taken at UT)
  • ECO 3 hours - ECO 304K or 304L recommended
  • Computer applications 3 hours - MIS 311F or LIS 312 recommended
  • SPE/CMS 305 or 319
