Deadlines & Details

The following dates apply for the Spring 2013 semester.

Registration deadline. The deadline for registering for the EDP Subject Pool is midnight Sunday, February 3, 2013. There will be no extensions of the deadline.

Time Requirement. The requirement can be fulfilled by participating in studies totaling 4 hours OR participation in 3 studies regardless of total time. Study assignments are random. You don't have a choice as to which study you will be assigned. However, once assigned to a study, you maybe choose not to continue to participate. Contact the Subject Pool Coordinator if you find yourself in this situation.

Study Assignment. Study assignments will be available online by February 222013 for those who registered for the subject pool by the deadline.

The web site will explain the study sign-up procedures. If your assignment is not available on the web site by February 22, 2013, contact the Subject Pool Coordinator as soon as possible. The researchers have been told that they must complete their studies no later than April 12, 2013--approximately three weeks before the last day of class--so as not to interfere with the end-of-semester crunch of assignments and tests. However, researchers may need you to complete the study earlier than this deadline, and they have the right to set a deadline to complete their study before April 12th. If any researcher sets an early deadline, you must meet their deadline in order to receive credit for that study. Remember that to receive credit by participating in studies, you must complete ALL the studies assigned to you or elect to do the alternate assignment (see below).

Verification of Participation. At the end of the study, the researcher will give you a receipt verifying participation in your assigned study. You should hold on to this receipt in case any questions arise about the accuracy of the researcher's records in terms of who, in fact, participated.

Alternative to Participation in Research. If you would prefer not to, or are unable to participate in a research study, you may complete an alternate assignment. This assignment will be a written review of related research. The time needed to complete the assignment will be approximately the same as that for the research study participation. Alternate assignments will be available starting February 22, 2013, and will be due May 3, 2013 by 5pm. Additional information will be available online at that time.

Incompletes. Students who do not complete ALL the studies assigned to them by April 12, 2013 or the alternate assignment by May 3, 2013 will receive an "incomplete" instead of a grade for the course.

Subject Pool Coordinator. If you have additional questions about the Subject Pool requirement, please contact Summer Lane, Subject Pool Coordinator, through email at edpSubjectPool@austin.utexas.edu.

Please do not ask your instructor.
