Preparation for Domains 3, 4 & 5 Courses

Proficiency exams are not administered in Domains 3, 4, and 5. However, prior coursework may be required.

Domain 3: Developmental
Domain 4: Social-Personality
Domain 5: Learning and Cognition

DOMAIN 3: Developmental

In order to enroll in a Domain 3 course, students must have taken undergraduate or graduate introductory courses in the past five years in developmental psychology, or have read basic books selected from the ones below.

Miller, P.H. Theories of Development Psychology, 4th Edition, New York: W.H. Freeman, 2002

AND one of the following:

Owens, K. B., Child and Asolescent Development: An integrative approach, Belmont, CA: Wadsworth/ThomsonLearining, 2002

OR

Sigelman, C. K. & Rider, E. A., Life-Span Human Development, Belmont, CA: Wadsworth/ThomsonLearining, 2003

DOMAIN 4: Social-Personality

In order to enroll in a Domain 4 course, students must have taken undergraduate or graduate introductory courses in the past five years in social and personality psychology, or they should read the texts listed below (or their equivalent).

Social

Myers, D., Social Psychology, 7th edition, New York: McGraw-Hill, 2002.

Personality

Pervin, L. Personality: Theory and Research, 7th edition, Somerset, NJ: John Wiley & Sons, 1996.

Monte, C., and Sollod, R., Beneath the Mask:  An Introduction to Theories of Personality, Wiley Higher Education, 2003.

DOMAIN 5: Learning and Cognition

Students may enroll in a Domain 5 course without having prior knowledge of the domain.
