Proficiency Exams

New doctoral students in Educational Psychology must pass proficiency exams or complete corresponding vestibule courses. The Department does not grant waivers, based on coursework taken at other institutions, in lieu of taking and passing the proficiency exams or completing the vestibule courses.

There are two proficiency exams: One that covers basic content in statistics and one that will assess knowledge of measurement. These correspond to the vestibule courses Fundamental Statistics (Domain 1) and Measurement & Evaluation (Domain 2).

The exams are scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2008 only.

Domain 1 (Statistics)
9:00 – 11:00 am
Location: SZB 504, Al Kiva

Domain 2 (Measurement)
1:00 – 2:30 pm
Location: SZB 504, Al Kiva

The exams are multiple choice. Although only minimal calculation is required, students may bring calculators to use for the exam.

Content of the exams and suggested readings

Students who prefer to take the vestibule courses instead of the proficiency exams must contact  Virginia Stockwell (virginia.stockwell@mail.utexas.edu) as soon as possible.

Students with Disabilities. Any student with a documented disability (physical or cognitive) who requires academic accommodations should contact the Services for Students with Disabilities area of the Office of the Dean of Students at 471-6259 (voice) or 471-4641 (TTY for users who are deaf or hard of hearing) as soon as possible to request an official letter outlining authorized accommodations
