Counselor Education Students Present at the Texas School Counselor Association Conference

Students from the Counselor Education program presented to school counselors at the annual conference for the Texas School Counselor Association on February 10, 2013. Kelsey Poe, Brianna Livsey and Marie Wallace joined Dr. Leslie Moore to present "Creating a Growth Mindset: Motivating Students' Learning in Today's Testing World." The presentation challenged counselors to work with campus administrators, teachers, parents and students to shift the emphasis from achieving grades and test scores to an emphasis on learning, using failure as a chance to learn and developing initiative. The presentation highlighted the work of Carol Dweck on establishing a growth mindset. The crowd of 145 counselors at the workshop enthusiastically responded to the challenge to find ways to introduce these ideas into their schools.
