Area Goals
The School Psychology master's specialization has seven core goals:
Goal 1: Prepare students to work as Licensed Specialists in School Psychology (Texas) and Nationally Certified School Psychologists (Nationally).
Goal 2: Prepare students to translate research into practice.
Goal 3: Prepare students to demonstrate knowledge of research and theory in the basic domains of scientific psychology including social, cognitive, biological, developmental, and learning.
Goal 4: Prepare students to develop an understanding of and ability to integrate multiple theoretical perspectives that are relevant to the teaching, research, and practice of school psychology.
Goal 5: Prepare students to develop competence in conceptualizing, assessing, and intervening in child and adolescent learning, behavior, and mental health concerns with a range of developmentally and culturally sensitive, as well as empirically-supported, methods targeted to individual, classroom, and school-wide levels; home-school collaborations; and the larger social system.
Goal 6: Prepare students to apply relevant legal and ethical principles, as well as cultural sensitivity and self-awareness, to their professional service and practice.
Goal 7: Socialize students to advance the field of school psychology through exemplary professional practice, as well as participation and leadership in professional organizations.
