Professional Organizations

Membership and participation in relevant professional organizations are central to professional development, competence and promotion of the highest standards of research and practice in a field. The identity and curriculum of the area of Counselor Education is firmly grounded in the mission and the principles of The American Counseling Association. Our students are encouraged to maintain student membership in this organization and its affiliates. School counseling students are encouraged to become student members of the American School Counselor Association and its affiliates, while the students in the higher education concentration are encouraged to joining the American College Personnel Association. The Counselor Education Program recognizes the close link between the research and practice of psychology and also encourages student membership in the American Psychological Association and its affiliates.
