“Transition Trends of English Language Learners from Middle/Secondary School to Higher Education”  PI:  Dr. Jenny Battle

Determine the transition trends of ELL students into higher education or workforce training, and o investigate instruction delivered to ELLs during college preparations. Determine how variables such as SES, migration history, country of origin, and instructional history impact students’ successful transition through high school to post-secondary education and/or the workforce.

“(Developmental Education) Linking the Postsecondary P-16 Pipeline: Centralized or Mainstream Developmental Education?”  PI:  Dr. David Caverly

Research examining the impact of centralized vs. mainstreamed developmental education delivery in relation to their integration within and between community college and four-year institutions is limited. Guiding questions are: 1) How do indicators of student performance compare for the two delivery methods within and between institution type from a cross-sectional and longitudinal perspective by socio-demographic variables?; 2) What mediating influence do teacher motivation and experience play into student outcomes?; and 3) Is there a statistical and practical interaction between delivery method, student reaction, ethnicity, gender, and institution type?

“(Developmental Education) The Role of Graduate Programs in Developing an Effective P-16 Infrastructure”  PI:  Dr. Emily Payne

Pose the question – Do colleges train and support developmental education instructors or just throw them in the breach? Use a variety of multivariate quantitative methods to answer research questions, and in-depth qualitative methods where indicated. Establish a longitudinal database that will support graduate education by identifying “best practices” required for graduate education in developmental education to be effective.
