Message from the Graduate Coordinator, Summer and Fall

Greetings from the Department of Educational Administration!  I’d like to welcome you to the University of Texas at Austin.  As you begin your graduate studies in EDA, please take some time to meet the staff and faculty and become familiar with the resources that will help you progress through your studies. I hope the information presented here will assist you in your transition to university life.  Please browse through the different websites so that you become familiar with the useful links.

UT Website

This is the University’s official home website http://www.utexas.edu/.

From here you can access important links such as UT-Direct, the Graduate Studies Office, Libraries, the UT Directory, Offices, Calendars, Maps, etc.  Check this website periodically for university-wide news and official announcements such as inclement weather and emergencies.

Online Orientation

The Graduate School has an online orientation for new graduate students.  Please review as much of this as possible before school starts.  The website is at http://www.utexas.edu/ogs/orientation/.

The College of Education

Visit the COE website at http://www.utexas.edu/education/ for information on department specific scholarships, career services, research projects and education centers.  EDA is one of five departments in the College of Education—the other departments are:

  • Curriculum and Instruction (EDC)
  • Educational Psychology (EDP)
  • Special Education (SED)
  • Kinesiology (KIN)

This is our department website http://edadmin.edb.utexas.edu/.  Click the “Current Students” tab for a listing of  some of the most important links, e.g. specific program information, forms and downloads, faculty email and phone contacts, advancement to candidacy, etc.  We also post current information such as faculty and student awards and achievements and department and university deadlines.

EDA Programs

Within EDA, there are several programs or areas of specialization.  These programs are:

  • CSP—Cooperative Superintendency Program (EdD degree only)
  • CCLP—Community College Leadership Program (EdD and PhD)
  • EPP—Educational Policy and Planning Program (PhD only)
  • HED—Higher Education Administration Program (EdD, PhD and masters)
  • PRIN—Principalship Program (masters only)

UT-Direct

This is one of the most important links as it contains information on your classes, finances, on-campus and off-campus news and access your Webmail. This website is at https://utdirect.utexas.edu/utdirect/.

Office of Graduate Studies

This office is located in the Main Building (in the Tower).  The website at http://www.utexas.edu/ogs/  contains information on degree programs, professional development, fellowships, and graduation ceremonies, awards and the “Online Orientation.”

Office of the Registrar

This website at http://www.utexas.edu/student/registrar/ has links to University Catalogs, Academic Calendars, Course Schedules, Registration Access Schedules, Online Registration, Grades and Transcripts, and Tuition.

EID (Electronic ID)

The EID website is at https://utdirect.utexas.edu/nlogon/eid_suite/general/index.WBX. Your UT EID is an electronic identifier that will allow you to access online secure services.

Student ID Card

Students officially admitted to the University are required to purchase a student ID card. You will need to go in person to the Student ID Center in the Flawn Academic Center (FAC) Room 102 from 8:30 am-5:00 pm on Mon-Fri.  Bring a photo ID.  The cost is $10. Payment can be made at the UT Cashier's Office or online within 30 days.

Computer Labs/Technology

The Learning Technology Center (LTC) has two computer labs located in the Sanchez Building in SZB 439 and SZB 536.  Use of the facilities is limited to College of Education registered students, staff and faculty.  All facilities have wireless access to UTNet and the Internet.  Wireless users must log in their UT EID and password.   As a UT student, you will also have access to the computer labs located in the PCL (Perry-Castaneda Library) and the FAC (Flawn Academic Center).

Libraries & Research Assistance

The main library is the Perry-Castaneda Library (PCL) http://www.lib.utexas.edu/.

There are also other libraries and centers including Benson Latin American Collection and the Tarlton Law Library.  Janelle Hedstrom is our Education Librarian.  She is ready to help students and faculty locate research materials at the PCL.  Read about Janelle at

Textbooks

Parking and Transportation

Around Austin
