Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the UT Principalship Program (UTAPP), you must meet all of the following requirements.

Graduate and International Admissions Center Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. or proof of equivalent education at a foreign institution.
  • A 3.0 grade-point average (GPA) from previous graduate and upper-divisional undergraduate study. The Department may consider applications with lower GPAs.
  • GRE (Graduate Records Examination) General Aptitude Test combined score of 800 (old scale) or 300 (new scale). Please visit the Educational Testing Service (ETS) site for more information on taking the GRE as soon as possible.
  • Complete the Apply Texas Application and submit the following items: 
    • Application fee or, if you qualify, submit fee waiver request to GIAC.
    • Email Addresses for three (3) Professional References, one of which must be your current principal or supervisor. GIAC will contact your references directly.
    • Resume in UTAPP Format - see the link to format template below.
    • Statement of Purpose Essay describing the applicant's interests and commitment to the goals of the program, as well as personal, academic and professional background and goals. 
    • Official Transcripts from all previously attended institutions.     

Department of Educational Administration Requirements

  • A minimum GPA of 3.00 for all upper-division undergraduate and graduate coursework. The Department may consider applications with lower GPAs. Your GPA will be calculated by GIAC via official transcripts.

Note: Official Transcripts are those submitted at your request from a previously attended institution directly to The University of Texas at Austin. Transcripts submitted in any other manner are not official and cannot be accepted. 

  • A minimum GRE combined score of 800 (old scale) or 300 (new scale). See above for GRE link and more details.
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience to be completed before the program begins in June 2013.

 

Principalship Program Requirements

  1. Submit a formal Nomination.
  2. Resume in UTAPP Format, which you will upload to your formal UT graduate school application via GIAC's Admissions "check the status". Note: Upload may only be done 24-48 hours after submitting the official GIAC application on line.
  3. $30 Program Application Fee*. *Proceeds may be used in general support of the College of Education

  4. All Austin-area nominees must sign up to attend one (of two scheduled) UT Application Information Sessions - either Thur DEC 6 from 6-8 PM; or Sat DEC 8 from 9-11 AM. At this meeting you will learn more about the program, and be able to speak with current faculty and students. Specific details will be sent to all nominees.

 

UTAPP Application Checklist

Assessment Center - FEB 9, 2013

Selected candidates will be invited to participate in an assessment center in Austin conducted by teams of UTAPP faculty, university personnel, and area leaders in education on Saturday FEB 9, 2013. The assessment center may consist of several components such as a candidate interview, a data prompt presentation, and an observation/role play exercise. Invitations will be sent to selected candidates at the end of January 2013

Acceptance

Candidates selected for admission to The University of Texas at Austin Principalship Program will be notified officially by GIAC in April 2013 and will be asked to submit a formal letter of acceptance to the Graduate Advisor.
