Financial Assistance
A limited number of applicants are chosen each year for nomination of a University Preemptive Fellowship for recruitment of new graduate students. These are selected from all applications that are complete and submitted before November 15 (includes newly admitted applicants for that current Spring semester). No separate application is required.
Also available to qualified students are graduate teaching and research assistantships. These employment positions are offered primarily to those who are already admitted and enrolled in our program. The majority of our Teaching Assistantships involve supervision of interns and student teachers in the field, and thus require some K-12 classroom experience (U.S. schools only). Unfortunately, most International applicants do not immediately qualify for TAships. Research Assistantships are rare, and are generally offered to students whose research abilities/interests are known by hiring faculty. Application for these positions is done post admission to a C&I graduate program.
Other scholarship/fellowship opportunities may be available for continuing students through the College of Education or the Office of Graduate Studies.
Other programs across the university may offer financial assistance to students. Some of these centers include (but are not limited to) the Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts, the Center for Mexican American Studies, or the Center for African and African American Studies. Financial assistance from these centers may depend upon your field of study.
For student loans and other types of aid, U.S. applicants may inquire through the Office of Student Financial Services Web site at http://finaid.utexas.edu/.
