Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The Ph.D. is a research degree designed to prepare students to become educational scholars. They will learn to create, integrate, and apply knowledge, as well as to communicate and disseminate it. Students will learn to make original contributions to knowledge in the context of freedom of inquiry and expression. In addition to a master’s degree or the equivalent, applicants pursuing this degree should have the ability to understand and evaluate educational literature and apply appropriate principles and procedures to the recognition, evaluation, interpretation, and understanding of issues and problems at the frontiers of knowledge.
NOTE: Applicants must have a Master's degree before applying to this program. Some programs in C&I require doctoral applicants to have three years of teaching or other professional experience. Applicants should check the website of the specific program to which they are applying to determine whether this requirement applies to them.
