There are no undergraduate programs in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, although undergraduate level courses are offered through the department. Undergraduate students needing assistance should contact their Undergraduate Advisor/Counselor.

Graduate Students

Degree Programs

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction provides Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Education (M.Ed.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programs. There are eight areas of specialization.

Financial Assistance

A limited number of applicants are chosen each year for nomination of a University Preemptive Fellowship. Also available to qualified students are graduate teaching and research assistantships. Graduate Student Listserv

The CANDIGRAD Listserv is an email list service for graduate students in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Receive regular information and updates regarding scholarships and fellowships, job oportunities, registration information and deadlines, and much more.

Student Orgainizations

The Consortium for Research in Teacher Education (CRTE) is an interdisciplinary graduate
student organization, which promotes rigorous quality research on the education
of teachers in a variety of contexts. The consortium fosters collaboration among
its members as well as external partnerships that support and influence teacher
education. The organization values membership from all departments and fields of
study.

Graduate Studies Committee

The C&I Graduate Studies Committee (GSC) is composed of Curriculum and Instruction tenured and tenured track faculty members. All Master's and Doctoral Committees must have GSC representation.  Contact your supervisor, as well as the graduate catalog, for recommendations and guidance on assembling your graduate committee.

Registration Information

While most of the registration process can be completed through the Office of the Registrar’s online system, there are times when a student must work through the department office to register or to change his/her registration.

Dissertation Rooms:

C&I has configured two rooms in the Sanchez building to host seminars, meetings and dissertations that incorporate video/web conferencing and video presentations.  These rooms are available by reservation only.  To check the availability of these rooms and for more information please visit: http://community.edb.utexas.edu/conf_rooms/

New Student Orientation

The C&I Department hosts an Orientation session for new students just before the fall semester each year, usually in late August. This session, although not mandatory, is highly recommended. Information about UT and the C&I Department, including history, departmental procedures, advising, registration, financial assistance, and much more is discussed during this session. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the Department Graduate Advisor and Graduate Coordinator as well as any Program Area Advisors and current C&I graduate students who are available to attend. It is recommended that every new C&I Graduate Student plan to attend the orientation session offered in August of the year they are accepted.

Assistantship Information

There are many Departmental and Graduate School requirements for appointment of TAs, AIs, and GRAs.  There are also many possible benefits for individuals who are appointed as TAs, AIs, or GRAs.  These benefits may include Medical Coverage, Resident Tuition Entitlement, Parking, Carrel Space, or reimbursement for mileage depending on the type of appointment.
