Graduate Admissions - C&I, FLE, STEM
[There are no undergraduate degrees available through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction or its affiliated programs. Students interested in Teaching Certification should apply to the appropriate undergraduate program in the College of Education for the certification they seek. Teacher Certification is a separate program from the graduate level programs.]
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction and the affiliated programs of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education and Foreign Language Education offer graduate degrees, including the MA, MEd, and PhD. Each program has distinct admissions criteria, however, all three share the following requirements.
Common Application Process
To apply for admission to the Department of Curriculum & Instruction or the affiliated programs you must complete the following steps required by the UT Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC):
- Complete official GIAC application online via ApplyTexas.org.
- Pay your non-refundable application fee ($65 US; $90 international).
- Submit official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work to GIAC online. For instructions, please download the instructions for uploading transcripts. (pdf)

- International applicants must submit an official TOEFL/IELTS test score to GIAC.
- Include email addresses for three (3) professional references in the online application. Recommenders will receive instructions by email after you have submitted the online application.
- Upload current Resume/CV.
- Upload Statement of Purpose (Departmental Essay).
- Check individual program requirements for additional documents to be uploaded.
- Check the progress of your application on the application status check page. Online applications take 1-2 full business days to appear on the status check.
[Note: uploads are not available until the application and fee have been processed.]
Graduate application is a two-tiered process shared between GIAC and a specific graduate program. Once you have determined which department and program is right for you, please check the appropriate website for specific admissions criteria and further requirements for application.
