Basic Course Requirements (Minimum 9 hours)

Research Methods (3 hours)

Cultural Studies (6 hours; 3 hours for Master of Arts with thesis)

  • EDC 385K  Introduction to Multicultural Education

  • EDC 396  Latino Educational Policy in Texas

Specialization Requirements (Minimum 12 hours; 6 hours for Master of Arts with thesis)

Courses are selected with the assistance and approval of the assigned advisor. Among the courses that might be selected to fulfill this requirement are the following:

  • EDC 380P  Measurement and Assessment of Physical Activity
  • EDC 385G  Current Issues in Physical Education
  • EDC 390T  Analysis of Teaching in Physical Education
  • EDC 390T  Research on Teaching in Physical Education
  • EDC 395  Curriculum in Physical Education

Courses Outside the Department (Minimum 6 hours)

Coursework may come from Kinesiology & Health Education, Educational Administration, Educational Psychology, Special Education, or any other college in The University.

Courses are selected based on the student’s previous educational and work experiences with the assistance and approval of the assigned advisor.

Additional Information

Master of Arts with thesis (30 hours total minimum)

Master of Arts with report (33 hours total minimum)

Master of Education with coursework only (36 hours total minimum)

All programs must include at least six semester hours outside the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Up to nine hours of upper-division undergraduate coursework may be counted toward the M.Ed. (distributed as follows: six hours in Curriculum and Instruction and three hours outside C&I, or three hours in C&I and six hours outside C&I). Up to six hours of upper division undergraduate coursework may be counted toward the M.A.
