Mission

The Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program prepares students to become expert teachers, physical education curriculum developers, and teacher educators in an effort to maintain and improve our student’s health through developing a passion for lifelong physical activity. It is our goal to enhance the health and vitality of students through the promotion of lifelong physical activity and the adoption of healthy lifestyles. We hope to accomplish this through advancing the development of cultural, teaching, and technological competency in our teachers and teacher educators to encourage physical education classes that are responsive to the needs of an increasingly diverse and technologically savvy student population.

Vision

Our vision is to encourage and enhance the examination of the social, cultural, academic, political, economic, and technology oriented contexts in which physical education classes are situated to assess the influence of these factors on the physical activity and health levels of students. We endeavor to engage in multidiciplinary perspectives and research to examine and increase physical activity levels and advance lifelong physical activity and healthy lifestyles as a way of life for all students regardless of race, class, gender, or other identities.
