All programs must include at least 6 semester hours outside the Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I). No more than 9 hours upper division undergraduate coursework may be counted (distributed as follows):

  • 6 hours in C&I and 3 hours outside C&I or
  • 3 hours in C&I and 6 hours outside C&I

For the Reading Specialist Certificate, students are required to have:

  1. A minimum of 3 semester hours at elementary level, 3 semester hours at secondary level, and 3 semester hours of all-level work.
  2. A minimum of 3 semester hours of multi-cultural coursework;
  3. A minimum of 18 semester hours of reading courses
