Our subject is called many things—English, Language Arts, Reading, Literacy—and its complexity and significance is increasing more than ever in the 21st century. Our faculty and students participate in the ways literacy is changing in digital environments within an increasingly diverse communication landscape. Together, we research, learn, and re-learn how to read, compose, and teach in an evolving world of genres, media, cultures, and languages. Our programs give educators opportunities to think deeply about teaching and learning in diverse classrooms and communities, and provide them with theoretically sound, research-based ways of growing what they already do.
