Doctoral Degree Plans
Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Curriculum Studies are offered through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Curriculum Studies is intended to prepare generalists in curriculum and instruction, with the option of additional study in one or more supporting fields (e.g., social studies education). Each student is expected to obtain a thorough grounding in the body of knowledge related to curriculum development and effective teaching, followed by a program that is tailored to meet individual needs. Students in the Curriculum Studies specialization acquire competencies necessary for positions as master teachers, teacher supervisors, and instructional leaders; professors of education and teacher educators; curriculum designers and evaluators; and producers of curriculum materials for classrooms (K-12, college, government and business).
