Master Degree Plans

Master of Arts and Master of Education degrees in Bilingual/Bicultural Education are offered through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The programs are designed for those individuals who have a professional or personal interest in Bilingual/Bicultural Education. Persons who might opt for one of these degrees would be those wishing to expand their knowledge of program development and research in Bilingual/Bicultural Education The following is the coursework that is required for the 30 and 33 hour M.A. and M.Ed. programs, as well as the 36 hour M.Ed. program option.

Master of Arts or Master of Education with Thesis

  1. Major - 15 hrs.
    1. Required - 12 hrs.
    2. Elective - 3 hrs.
  2. Supporting - 9 hrs.
  3. Thesis - 6 hrs.

Doctoral Degree Plans

The doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction - Bilingual/Bicultural Education - is designed to engage students in a critical examination of the politics, history, theory and practices of bilingual/bicultural education in the US and internationally. It is an interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students to design and carry out critical research in bilingual/biliterate/multicultural settings. The program is intended for individuals who are bilingual and biliterate in English and at least one other language (usually, but not always, Spanish), and who have experiences working with bilingual individuals in educational settings.
