Bilingual Teacher Education
Pre-service teachers in the bilingual education teacher preparation program are active in the community in collaboratives that strengthen their ties to the community and the integration of the funds of knowledge of the students they serve. Participation as volunteers in cultural events like Día de los Muertos and Diez y seis de septiembre at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, or Viva la Vida Fest at the MexicArte Museum, reading to visiting children during Story Time and Bilingual Story Time at the Austin Children's Museum, neighborhood walks and volunteering in East Austin community sites deepen the cultural, linguistic, and social understandings our pre-service teachers bring to the classroom.
