Bilingual/ESL Summer Institute (BESI)
The Bilingual/ESL Summer Institute opened its doors in 2009 with the collaboration of the Austin Independent School District. Ideal candidates are certified teachers seeking bilingual or ESL certification and/or professional development for in-service bilingual/ESL certified teachers, as well as administrators who are interested in supporting the work of bilingual/ESL teachers on their campuses. This institute will focus entirely on recruitment of certified teachers interested in attaining their ESL or Bilingual Education credentials. Coursework will support teachers' learning to effectively serve English Learners in their classrooms. You must be a certified teacher in any school district in the Austin Metroplex in order to participate in the Bilingual/ESL Summer Institute.
Benefits for Participating Teachers:
- Tuition/fees paid
- 4 graduate level courses
- Up to 6 units towards a MA degree (teachers will apply separately to Master's program)
- Being able to better teach ELL students
- Counts toward Professional Development hours
The Bilingual/ESL Summer Institute (BESI) will be accepting applications for Summer 2012 admission beginning this fall. Complete the fillable Intent to Apply form, save, and email or fax it by March 2, 2012.
