Welcome to the Proyecto Maestría Collaborative at the University of Texas
The collaborative will accomplish this aim through the following two initiatives:
- PROYECTO MAESTRÍA SPECIAL MASTERS PROGRAM: This program provides scholarship money for current, certified Bilingual teachers with five years experience from the Austin area to pursue a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Bilingual Education. Each year a cohort will be assembled representing area schools. Upon completion of the Masters program, this select group will then serve as mentor teachers on their campuses as well as support teacher education and professional development related to Bilingual and ESL education in their districts and in collaboration with U.T. Austin
- BILINGUAL/ESL SUMMER INSTITUTE (BESI): Our summer institute provides preparation for teachers seeking bilingual or ESL certification and/or professional development for in-service bilingual/ESL certified teachers, as well as administrators who are interested in supporting the work of bilingual/ESL teachers on their campuses. The summer institute aims to increase and advance the number of Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language (ESL) certified teachers in the Austin area. It provides graduate level courses in Bilingual Education and ESL Education during an intensive summer session. Scholarships will cover tuition and fees. Participants will earn 6 hours of graduate credit at U.T. Austin.
