The Bilingual/Bicultural Education program seeks to further the field of critical bilingual and bicultural education within a context of teaching social justice and equity. We train students to focus a critical lens on the world around them so they can become active agents for social transformation and democracy in education.

We value creative scholarship that deals with issues of race, class, gender, language, culture and border-crossing pedagogies. Students will learn to initiate and implement projects that are anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, anti-poverty and that encourage peace. Our students will challenge conventional teaching methods and conceptions of knowledge, altering them to reflect understanding and respect for the experiences of racially, linguistically, culturally and economically diverse learners and families.
