UTeach Graduates and Their Students Win Robotics Competition

Three graduates of the UTeach program (Janice Trinidad, Bobby Garcia, Pedro Merced) and their students on the Manor New Tech High School Robotics team (FRC 2789 TEXplosion) won the 2013 FIRST Robotics Lone Star Regional robotics competition March 7-9 and have earned a bid to compete in the World Championships in St. Louis. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) sponsors robotics competitions across the country to get middle and high school students involved in STEM design.

They were also finalists at the Hub City Regional in Lubbock, winners at the Alamo Regional in San Antonio and will be competing in the world championship tournament at the end of the month.

The team's lead technical mentor, Dr. Jeffrey Erickson, was awarded the Woodie Flowers Finalist Award at the Alamo Regional and will be competing for the prestigious award at the world championship tournament at the end of the month in St. Louis.
