Foreign Language Education

Foreign Language Education (FLE) is an interdisciplinary graduate program offering MA and PhD programs in Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language, Foreign Language Education (Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, French, Japanese, German, Russian, Italian etc.), and Applied Linguistics. In addition to faculty from the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, FLE students work with outstanding faculty members from across the University in the areas of languages and language education. Students complete core courses in language learning, teaching, and assessment, research methodology, and their language of specialization. Many leaders in language education in the US and abroad have received their graduate training from this internationally recognized program.

Science and Mathematics Education

Science and Mathematics Education (SME) is an interdisciplinary graduate program in which students may earn an M.A., M.Ed. or Ph.D. degree. With nine tenure-line faculty members, strong ties to the College of Natural Sciences, and over 60 graduate students, the SME program provides a unique combination of opportunities for research, modeling, design, and impact on the field. Current faculty hold a number of federally funded research and development grants, and are involved in local, state and national initiatives that focus on learning, teaching, equity, technology design, and teacher education in science and mathematics.
