Profile

Dr. Brent Hasty is a Clinal Assistant Professor in the College of Education, where he teaches Elementary Social Studies Methods in the teacher preperation program. His research agenda includes integrated instruction using arts-based strategies, service learning, and the alignment of community resources to support learning in schools. Dr. Hasty is also interested in the role of representation in curriculum and instruction. Methodologically, Dr. Hasty is interested in the role of the embedded scholar to create community change, working with large scale community efforts such as Austin's Any Given Child Initiative and Light/The Holocaust and Humanity project. His research has been presented internationally and published peer-reviewed journals including Action in Teacher Education and Arts and Learning Research Journal. Dr. Hasty is frequently asked to help communities across the US develop community arts partnerships that coordinate school districts, municipal governments and community arts organizations in ways that impact student engagement and student achievement across the curriculum.
