How to Install TrueCrypt in Mac OS X

TrueCrypt can encrypt files into a format that is compatible on both Windows and OS X versions of the software. This allows a Windows user to exchange encrypted files with an OS X user and vice-versa. TrueCrypt is an open source program which is free to download and use.

1. Go to the TrueCrypt website

Start your web browser and go to Truecrypt website which is located at the URL http://www.truecrypt.org. Once the website loads, click the Download link in the top menu.

 

2. Download the OS X version of the TrueCrypt program

Find OS X download section and select the operating system and press download button.

 

3. Accept the license agreement

The TrueCrypt installation file will automatically download and start on your computer. Click the Accept button on license agreement that appears.

 

4. Run the installation program

TrueCrypt installer will automatically launch. Click Continue the button.



Click "Install" button to accept the default installation location on your hard drive.



You will be prompted for your username and password. Type them in and press the OK button.



After installation is completed. Click the "Close" button to quit the installation program.

 

5. Launch the TrueCrypt program

The application is installed into your "Applications" folder. You can open it by clicking Go > Applications.



Scroll until you find the TrueCrypt icon.



Double-click the TrueCrypt icon to start the program
