b.) Connecting to a Windows server: After pressing connect in the previous step you should see the dialog box to the left. If you do not see this dialog box, STOP. If you do not see this dialog box, then that means you do not have the Microsoft UAM module installed. Without this module installed, your login information will be transmitted unencrypted across the network. You must have the Microsoft UAM module installed. If you are a faculty or staff member of the College of Education, please contact the computer help desk and request to have this installed on your computer.

If you DO see the dialog box to the left, then highlight the "Microsoft Authentication..." menu item and press the button labeled "OK". Proceed to step 5.

.) You should now see the dialog box to the right. Note the Microsoft name at the top right corner. This confirms that you are using the Microsoft UAM module and that you will be able to login securely into the server. Ensure the option "Require strong authentication (NTLMv2)" is checked and then type in your username and password. Press the button labeled "connect" when you are done.

.) A dialog box should appear that contains all the file shares on the server. Shares that are greyed out mean that you do not have access rights to these shares so you cannot connect to them. Select the file share that you want to connect to then press the "OK" button.

.) If you see a message box pop up, read the message and then press the "OK" button to close it.

.) The file share should now be mounted on your desktop. If you connected to a Windows server, then the share icon should look like the top image which has the Windows logo in the top left corner. If you connected to a Mac server, then the share icon will look like the bottom image. Once the share is mounted, you can double-click on the icon and access the files in the share just like you access files on your computer. IMPORTANT: Once you are done working with the share, remember to drag the share to the trash can in order to log out of the server.
