Defcon (defcon.edb.utexas.edu)

This server can store Category I data and other sensitive information. UT policy requires Category I data such as FERPA information be transmitted over computer networks encrypted. All of the connection methods below will be encrypted if you follow the specified instructions.

** The hours of operation for this server are 6:00am CST to 11:00pm CST. The server automatically shuts down at 11:00pm CST so make sure you save your files and disconnect from the server before that time. Due to technology limitations, there will be no warning to disconnect from the server before it shuts down at 10:00pm.

** Your computer has to be authorized to connect to the server. You will only be able to connect to the server from an authorized computer plugged into the wired network and located in one of the buildings College of Education departments are located in OR a computer connected to the UT Virtual Private Network (VPN). Contact the LTC computer helpdesk at help@edb.utexas.edu to have your computer authorized and configured to connect to the server through the wired network.

Mac

Secure File Transfer Protocal (SFTP)

  • Encrypted connection to the server. You can use any SFTP client program to connect to the server. "Fetch" is a SFTP program which is available on the Bevoware website.

 


Windows

  • Encrypted connection to the server. You can use any SFTP client program to connect to the server but the instructions here are for "SSH Secure Shell". This program is available on the Bevoware website.
