How to connect to coruscant.edb.utexas.edu (SFTP on OS X)

1.) Start the Fetch program by double-clicking on its icon.

2.) After you launch Fetch, the New connection dialog box will appear.

3.) In the hostname field type coruscant.edb.utexas.edu. In the username field type in the username that was assigned to you to log into the server. In the "connect using" drop-down box, choose SFTP. Enter your user account password in the "Password" field. When you are done filling out the fields, click the connect button in order to connect to the server.

  • NOTE: If you are connecting from off-campus, you will need to first connect to the University VPN before you will be able to establish an SFTP connection to the server.

4.) If the username and password you entered was correct and you have access to this server, you will now see a dialog box with a list of shared folders on the server. Double-click the folder that you want to access. If you do not have permission to access a folder that you double-click on a dialog box will pop up telling you this. You may need to press the Refresh button in the Fetch program if the folder you are trying to access does not appear in the folder listing.

  • You can now drag and drop files and folders to the server using the Fetch window similar to how you drag and drop files and folders on your Mac.
  • NOTE: You cannot launch or open a file directly on the server. You must first copy the file to your computer then you can edit it. Don't forget to upload the file back to the server so that the file stored on the server will have the changes that you made.

5.) When you are done transferring your files to/from the server, disconnect from the server by exiting the Fetch application.
