2. From the top menu bar select: Site | Manage Sites...

Screenshot of Manage Sites menu option

3. From the Manage Sites window that appears, click the New... button and select the Site menu item that appears.

4. The Site Definition wizard will now appear. Fill out the following fields and click the Next > button when you are done:

  • What would you like to name your site?
    • Put anything you want here. This will be the name that shows up in the list of managed sites that you pick from when you start up Dreamweaver
  • What is the HTTP address (URL) of your site?
    • Specify the URL for your website here. You should have been given this when your website was created on the server.

5. In the next screen specify if you plan to use PHP or not on the server. If you are not sure, go ahead and select the PHP option as shown in the screenshot. Click the Next > button when you are done.

6. In the next screen fill out the following fields and press the Next > button when done:

  • Edit locally, then upload to remote testing server
    • Enable this
  • Where on your computer do you want to store your files?
    • You can use the default directory specifed here or specify a different one. This is the directory on your computer where the website files will be stored while you are working on them.

7. The next screen asks you how to connect to the server. You need to connect to the server with SFTP using the nonstandrard port 53622. Fill out the following fields and press the Next > button when you are done:

  • How do you want to connect to your testing server?
    • FTP
  • What is the hostname or FTP address of your Web server?
  • What folder on the testing server do you want to store your files in?
    •  Specify the SFTP directory which contains your website files. If your website was created after January 2009, then this will usually be "public_html/". If you are not sure you can connect to the server with a standard SFTP program such as FileZilla and determine the directory your website files are stored in.
  • What is your FTP login?
    • Specify your website's username here. You should have been given this when the website was created on the server.
  • What is your FTP password?
    • Specify your website's password here. You should have been given this when the website was created on the server.
  • Use Secure FTP (SFTP)
    • Check this box

8. In the next screen you need to specify the URL for your website. You should have been given this when the website was created. The default URL that is automatically prefilled into this field when you first load this screen will most likely not be correct and you'll need to change it. Click the Next > button when you are done.

9. If you don't intend to utilize the file checkin/checkout feature of Dreamweaver or you are not sure what this is for, select the option No, do not enable check in and check out. Press the Next > button when done.

10. The final screen displays all of the settings you have set so far as a final review. If any of the settings are incorrect, you can press the < Back button to fix them. Otherwise press the Done button to save your website settings.

10. Done. Your website setup is now complete. You can now select it in the Manage Sites... window to begin editing your website files.
