How to Connect To www.edb.utexas.edu With SFTP Using FileZilla

IMPORTANT: In order to follow the instructions below you need to have already installed the FileZilla program on your computer. If you do not already have FileZilla installed on your computer you can download it free of charge from the FileZilla homepage which is located at http://filezilla-project.org. Make sure you download the version of the FileZilla program labeled "FileZilla Client".

1. Launch the FileZilla application and locate the "Quickconnect" bar near the top which is highlighted in the image below.

2. Specify the following information in the Quickconnect fields:

  • Host: sftp://www.edb.utexas.edu
  • Username: Enter the username you were assigned here
  • Password: Enter your password here
  • Port: 53622

3. Press the Quickconnect button to initiate a connection to the server.

4. If this is your first time connecting to the server you will be prompted with the "Unknown host key" dialog box. Press the OK button to continue. If you do not want to see this dialog box everytime you log into the server, check the box labeled "Always trust this host, add this key to the cache" before pressing the OK button.

5. Once connected to the server, the lower-right pane displays the contents of your folder on the server. Double-click on the directory which contains the website files you want to edit.

6. Drag-and-drop the files you want to upload to the server into the website directory. If you want to delete a file or directory, click on it and press the DELETE key on your keyboard.

7. When you are done transferring files to the server you can disconnect from it by closing the FileZilla program.
