LHD Definition of Service

Laptop Help Desk staff will be glad to help you with the following things:

  • Diagnose software and hardware problems with modern Apple laptops belonging to members of the College of Education Laptop Initiative.
  • Reconfigure or re-install software on Apple laptops to conform to the requirements of the LIFE program.
  • Assist you with the installation of a limit selection of Apple-designated customer installable parts.
  • Send laptops to an Apple repair depot for free, warranty-covered service.
  • Approve loaner laptop checkout for users whose laptops must be sent to Apple for warranty service.
  • Provide you with support and limited training for the following software:
    • iLife (iMovie, iPhoto, etc.)
    • Microsoft Office
    • Inspiration
    • Select Bevoware Applications

Unfortunately, Laptop Help Desk staff cannot:

  • Perform any repairs or part replacements that are not covered under the laptop's warranty.
  • Install, configure, or support any hardware or software not required by LIFE.
  • Make a 100% guarantee of the proper backup of user data.
  • Sell any hardware or software. We can, however, refer you the Campus CompUTer Store.
  • Troubleshoot in-depth any PC problems, whether software or hardware-related. For PC troubleshooting, please see the ITS Help Desk (512-475-9400).
