The AAL is a large, beautifully appointed room equipped with forty Apple iBook laptops wirelessly connected to the UT campus network and the Internet. It supports College of Education computer-related courses, as well as those requiring large screen projection.

The room has large rear-projection screens which can display video from tape, DVD, opaque and transparent instructor documents, distant-site signals and the monitor display from instructor. Projection equipment is housed in projection rooms behind the front walls.

Speakers mounted next to the projection screens provide full range stereo sound of playback audio sources. An optional microphone for instructors provides speech reinforcement.

The room also features a custom-designed instructor console equipped with both a Mac and a PC, document camera, videotape and DVD players, video preview monitor and a touchscreen control panel. The custom-programmed control system allows the instructor to adjust room lighting, volume levels and operate the projection systems.

A control room with visual access to both the AAL and the Distance Learning Classroom houses transmission, technical and control equipment.

The 40 Apple iBooks feature a wide variety of software and wireless access to the UT campus network and the Internet.
