Twenty-six sixth graders from Zavala Elementary School visited the Learning Technology Center on Friday, November 7 as part of the Longhorn School Bus, a program sponsored by the Retention and Recruitment Committee of the Senate of College Councils to encourage young students to attend college. Twenty-five other Zavala students also visited the College of Architecture.

The students participated in a number of technology activities during their visit, led by IDEA Studio personnel. They built virtual vehicles with Lego software on a Promethean interactive white board, and explored fun educational Web sites. They used remotes to submit their votes in an interactive polling activity, and created postcards with Photo Booth and iPhoto. They also toured LTC facilities. The children enjoyed the activities and afterwards many said they wanted to be teachers.

IDEA Studio employees who led activities included Becky Carpenter, Marty Huang, Royce Kimmons, Michelle Read, and Jenis Woo. Sam Kutscha, Laptop Help Desk, and LTC coordinators Karen French and Chad Fulton also helped plan the event. Students in the Education Council organized the visit and chaperoned the students.
