LIFE Students: Consider Buying Mac Leopard OS before April 1 Price Increase
The Learning Technology Center’s Laptop Initiative for Future Educators (LIFE) coordinator, Chad Fulton, would like all Professional Development Sequence students to know that the current discount on the Mac Leopard OS (10.5) at the Campus Computer Store, located in FAC, will end March 31. The current price of $34 will rise to $99 on April 1. Students considering Leopard may want to go ahead and purchase it before the price increase.
Those with computers currently running Tiger OS (10.4) with at least one gigabyte (1 GB) of RAM can consider the upgrade.
Visit the LTC Laptop Help team (SZB 536; M-Th 8:30-5:45 and Fri 8:30-4:45) or call them at 471-6072 to get answers to any questions about upgrading to Leopard, including help to determine if a computer’s RAM is sufficient.
Or visit Apple's Mac OS X site to see a guided video tour of Leopard as well as a list of the new features.
To determine a Mac’s current operating system version and amount of RAM:
- Click on the apple icon at the upper left corner of the desktop and choose the menu item: About This Mac.
- Under the Mac OS X heading look for the version number. Numbers starting with “10.4…” are Tiger. If the number begins with “10.5…” Leopard is already installed.
- The computer’s RAM is listed on the Memory line with the first number and set of letters, such as 512 MB, 1 GB, or 2 GB.
