TLTC Distinguished Lecture Series welcomes Richard Baraniuk Monday, Oct. 20, 4 pm, FAC 21-October 14, 2008
Dr. Richard Baraniuk
Dr. Richard Baraniuk, of Rice University, will speak on "The Open Education Movement: Transforming the Economics and Ecology of Education" Monday, October 20, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the Flawn Academic Center auditorium, FAC 21.
Dr. Baraniuk describes Open Education as, " A grassroots movement on the verge of sweeping through the academic world. The open education (OE) movement is based on a set of intuitions shared by a remarkably wide range of academics: that knowledge should be free and open to use and reuse: that collaboration should be easier, not harder; that people should receive credit and kudos for contributing to education and research; and that concepts and ideas are linked in unusual and surprising ways and not in the simple linear forms that todays' textbooks present. OE promises to fundamentally change the way that authors, instructors, and students interact worldwide."
This free public lecture should appeal to many in the College of Education. The Texas Language Technology Center's Distinguished Lecture Series is co-sponsored by the Learning Technology Center and the Foreign Language Education Program.
