College of Education students will see several changes in the Learning Technology Center’s computer labs as summer classes begin.

There is no longer a Fifth Floor Open Lab, and all Open Lab users will now be directed to the Fourth Floor Open Lab. The change will consolidate all LTC lab computers and printers on the fourth floor, simplifying our service layout and streamlining maintenance.

Open Lab users may always use computers in the Multimedia Lab, Mac Lab, or PC Lab when there are no classes in these rooms, so there should always be enough computers available. And six licenses for the statistical software SPSS, previously on Fifth Floor Open Lab computers, will be provided in the Fourth Floor Open Lab.

LTC staff are currently researching various options for new uses of the old fifth floor open lab space. The plan will likely involve providing various technologies to increase collaborative opportunities in the College.

In other lab news, the LTC has received new ITS Printing Service laser printers that will provide faster, better quality output. Both a black and white printer and a color printer are deployed in the Sánchez fourth floor labs, along with a black and white printer in the Kinesiology Lab in Bellmont Hall. ITS manages the LTC’s printer services, which students use with prepaid Bevo Bucks.
