LTC to Co-sponsor Distinguished Lecture Series

Dr. Richard G. Baraniuk, Victor E. Cameron Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University.

The Learning Technology Center (LTC) is pleased to announce that it will co-sponsor the 2008-2009 Distinguished Lecture Series of the Texas Language Technology Center (TLTC). The TLTC, directed by Dr. Carl Blyth in the College of Liberal Arts, works to develop the potential of new technologies to improve foreign language instruction.

The free public lectures, given by distinguished visitors to the University, will appeal to a broad audience, especially many in the College of Education who are interested in instructional technology and language learning.

The speaker for fall 2008 is Richard Baraniuk, founder of Connexions.org and a professor at Rice University, who will discuss the Open Education movement. Spring 2009 speakers will include Dr. Jim Gee, a professor at Arizona State University, who will speak about immersive environments and serious gaming, Claire Kramsch, University of California-Berkeley and Steven Thorne, Penn State University.

Specific dates for the talks have not yet been scheduled as of August 2008. Please watch for event fliers or announcements on the LTC, TLTC, and College of Education Web sites in the fall, or contact Laurie Caldwell for more information.
