Karen French and Ken Tothero

Ken Tothero’s leadership has been integral to the development and success of the faculty technology integration services of the Learning Technology Center’s IDEA Studio. And now, as Ken’s other responsibilities have mushroomed, Karen French is ready to carry on that standard of excellence.

The LTC is pleased to announce that Karen French is now the coordinator of the IDEA Studio. Karen has worked in the IDEA Studio for  five years and has helped many faculty members integrate technology into their instruction and research. She has led numerous IDEA Studio pilot projects to explore new uses of technology in education, concentrating in particular on laptop videoconferencing, electronic student portfolios, and blogging. Karen has a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with a specialization in Instructional Technology and a Masters degree in Anthropology. She taught high school Latin for seven years.

Ken Tothero, the previous IDEA Studio coordinator, will now have more time to devote to his duties as Project Manager for the LTC’s special projects. These include the ITAC-funded Handheld projects, the Vision Awards funded by the COE Dean's Office, and the LTC's externally funded projects, such as the Presidential Timeline and research for the Regional Educational  Laboratory—Southwest (REL Southwest) in partnership with Edvance Research, Inc. He is also currently developing several proposals for new projects.

Ken has a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology. He worked as an educational multimedia developer before coming to the LTC in 2001, and has created award-winning software for physics and math education. He also has eleven years teaching experience at the secondary level.
