LTC-Produced Software

In the process of managing the computer labs and technical resources for the College of Education, the LTC has written several software applications which it has released as open source packages. These may be used free of charge by the educational community at large.

Software

LHD MasterTool

MasterTool is an OS X Cocoa application that allows a help desk (specifically one servicing laptops) to keep track of the computers they are servicing as well as the customers and computers they have seen in the past. The main feature is a categorized to-do list for each computer, which allows staff members to coordinate their work on a machine, even when they don't have the opportunity to see each other face to face before passing off a checked-in computer.

The client-server nature of the application lets several staff members make updates from separate computers at the same time, each immediately seeing the other's changes. Every action a staff member takes with the MasterTool is recorded in detail in the backend MySQL database for later reporting.

LTC LabDesktop

LabDesktop is a small Cocoa utility for OS X which allows a web page to be displayed as the computer's desktop background. The web page is not limited to displaying only - it is still interactive.

Licensing

Both the LHD MasterTool and LTC LabDesktop are distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, which allows us to share the applications and their source code with you (even letting you
modify them), yet guarantees that they stay open source and beneficial to the software community. See www.fsf.org for more information.

Availability

Anyone interested in learning more about our open source applications or in obtaining copies software can contact our application development team.

NOTE: LabDesktop and MasterTool are no longer being used at the LTC Services Desk but anyone is welcome to use or customize the code for their own organizations.
