Global Learning in the 21st Century Conference
Professors and students of the College of Education, The University of Texas at Austin, were major organizers and participants of the conference "Global Learning in the 21st century."
The conference, held October 18-21, 1998 in Copenhagen, Denmark, explored the utilization of information and communication technologies, such as the Internet, in education in the future. The conference emphasized global collaboration and brought together teachers, administrators and researchers from around the world to develop innovations in the use of educational technologies and to form technology project partnerships.
College of Education participants included Dr. Nolan Estes, L.D. Haskew Centennial Professor and Director of the Cooperative Superintendency Program, and Dr. Paul E. Resta, Professor of Curriculum & Instruction and Director of the Learning Technology Center, who helped organize and plan the conference. Dr. Resta also made three presentations on evaluating technology-based education and spoke at the conference's formal dinner on October 20.
Dr. Judith B. Harris, Associate Professor of Curriculum & Instruction, delivered a keynote speech on the use of the Internet in education. Dr. Tom Burnett, Adjunct Associate Professor of Curriculum & Instruction spoke on creating online learning communities. Curriculum & Instruction doctoral students Carolyn Awalt, Keith Rutledge and Diann Boehm were members of a global design team. They presented technology projects and assisted conference participants in developing their own projects.
Other conference hosts included Frederiksborg County in Denmark, The Royal Danish School of Educational Studies, Indiana University and the French Ministry of Education. Corporate sponsors included Apple Computer, Arthur Andersen, Infoware, Microsoft, VTEL Corporation, Lotus Learning Space and LEGO.
