NSF---Math Partnership; UTeach Summer Institutes

Pending

UTeach will create new three-week summer institutes to develop the content knowledge of teachers throughout Texas. The institutes will teach Science by Inquiry, focusing on laboratory activities to teach large concepts in science, and will in various summers be offered in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Sciences. The Texas Regional Collaboratives will partner with UTeach by sending teams of teachers from across Texas to participate in the Institutes. Upon their return, these new ITMs will deliver professional development based upon what they have learned. In this way, the impact of the Institutes will be greatly expanded by the reach of the 35 collaboratives spanning Texas. Specifically:

  • The TRC will offer the UTeach program to five collaboratives a year for the five-year duration of the grant with each collaborative receiving a $20,000 sub-award.
  • The TRC will facilitate the program by overseeing the selection of collaboratives and will monitor the budgeting process. The TRC will observe the progress of the local programs during site visits.
  • The TRC will provide web space to highlight associated UTeach programs such as the Summer Institutes and the Masters Program as well as to offer a content management system for the sharing of membership data, to facilitate document sharing, and to provide a forum for online discussions.
  • The TRC will keep demographic information of program participants in its databank and will assist in the collection of data via instruments designed and provided to the TRC by UTeach
