Dr. Diane Pedrotty Bryant SPECIAL EDUCATION

My name is Diane Pedrotty Bryant

and I am a Professor in the Department of Special Education

in the College of Education at the University of Texas, Austin.

We know that there is group of children who struggled learning mathematics

and that these difficulties are manifested at the elementary and secondary level.

It is imperative that we develop interventions and assessment measures

so that we can better serve this group of students

who need additional support in the area of mathematics

so that they can be more successful throughout the school years.

In the Math Institute as part of our work,

is grounded in the Response to Intervention

or RTI approach to the identification of Learning Disabilites

for students who are identified as struggling in the area of mathematics.

We have been very fortunate to be able to develop and validate

assessment measures for these students,

field testing them in classes, getting feedback from classroom teachers

which helped to improve the final product

that we'll have available at the conclusion of this grant.
