1960s

Betty Sue Bird, B.S. in Secondary Education 1963

Betty taught for 37 years, 32 in Austin ISD, and retired in 2000 after teaching 27 years at Crockett HS.  Betty is active in several organizations including the Daughters of the Republic of Texas - past president of William Barret Travis Chapter 3, now on the DRT Museum and Headquarters Committee for the state DRT - and the Daughters of the American Revolution - presently Regent of Thankful Hubbard Chapter.

1980s

Sharon Gavin Fought, Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction/Higher Education 1983

Sharon is currently the Director of the Nursing Programs at the University of Washington Tacoma, where they offer a BSN program for those who are registered nurses, curriculum options in a Master of Nursing program, and a minor in health for non nursing majors. Sharon writes, "It's terrific to be on a growing, urban campus in a community that embraces higher education and what a university can contribute."

Margaret Williams Kuykendall, B.A. in Elementary Education 1985

Margaret has over 14 years of teaching in several Austin-area elementary schools and in 1991 earned a M.Ed. from Texas State University in Curriculum and Instruction.  She joined St. Edwards University in 1997 as adjunct professor and supervisor of student teachers.  In 2001 she returned to the COE as facilitator of interns and apprentice teachers and is now a coordinator and lecturer. She is married to Marshall and has two children, Wylie and Jennie.

2000s

Daniel Frank Gohl, M.Ed. in Science Education 2001

Daniel is currently Senior STEM Consultant and Associate Director for STEM Education at the Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM in Baltimore, MD. He served as Executive Director of Secondary School Transformation at the District of Columbia Public Schools from 2007-2008, and Founding Principal of McKinley Technology HS at District of Columbia Public Schools from 2002-2007. Daniel also served as Director of the Science Academy at LBJ HS at Austin ISD from 1997-2002.

Wesley Null, Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction 2001

Wesley is Associate Professor of Curriculum & Foundations of Education at Baylor University. Wesley has published numerous articles and five books including Peerless Educator: The Life and Work of Isaac Leon Kandel (Peter Lang, 2007) and The Pursuit of Curriculum: Schooling and the Public Interest (Information Age Publishing, 2006).

Ka Kit Chow, B.S. in Kinesiology, Sport Management 2004

Ka established www.usaoutlet.com.hk in 2005. As an online company based in Hong Kong, their focus is online retail in Hong Kong, Europe and the US. He reports they were the top 5 search on Yahoo Auction in Hong Kong last year, and they have increased the number of customers more than 50% over last year.
