Grew up on the bayous of East Texas, fishing, gator huntin, playing football--typical redneck stuff. Now I'm finishing a PhD in education and queer theory at The University of Texas; go figure. I still have to get outside a lot for mountain biking or paddling down rivers. Austin is nice because I can go out on Friday night, listen to a Willie Nelson or Anni Defranco or hang out an art opening, and then be out on the river the next morning. I'm going to miss this place. Brooklyn will be my new home come August as I will be moving to The City to teach at Adelphi University. I'm finishing a PhD with specializations in education, composition, and cultural studies. My dissertation is an ethnographic study of how young people use popular culture to construct sexual identities. Look for it in book form soon! I can cook Creole food better than Paul Prudhomme's mama, so if you ever visit ask me to make some etoufe or grillades or maybe some sweet potato pie. I love visitors, so look me up.
