Assistive Technology Categories
An assistive technology device is defined as "any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off-the-shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities" (U.S. Congress, 1988).
Adaptations are "alterations that are made so that a task can be accomplished by a person who does not possess the requisite abilities needed for task completion" (Bryant & Bryant, 2002).
