Athletic Training Degree Plan

The Athletic Training major is a four-year, 130 semester hour academic program. The student's first year is spent in the Directed Observation (D.O.) program while completing general education and prerequisite courses. After being admitted, ATEP students will continue completing coursework to fulfill degree requirements towards the athletic training major and participate in a series of clinical fieldwork rotations.

The clinical fieldwork rotations provide the student with the opportunity to practice and apply their knowledge and skills in a clinical environment under the supervision of a clinical instructor. Clinical fieldwork rotations may include placement with UT athletics teams, local high schools, physician's offices, sports medicine clinics, and professional sports teams.

The following is the suggested course sequence for athletic training majors.

Freshman | Sophomore | Junior | Senior

Texas state licensure requires that students attain at least 1800 clock hours of practical experience under the direct supervision of and on the same campus of a college or university's full-time licensed athletic trainer. These hours must be completed over a minimum of 3 years.
